The shuttle bus service provided by METU, NCC, for its students is with collaboration with the AKVA bus company. Knowledge of the bus route and timing is crucial if you are studying here and need to get around. The shuttle takes regular rounds to Kalkanli and Guzelyurt, the two neighboring cities to the University. It’s particularly important if you want to go grocery shopping or even sightseeing around nearby towns. With the bus, you could go to the bus terminal in Guzelyurt from and get transportation to different cities around Cyprus, like Famagusta, Nicosia, etc.
The bus fee
The bus fare is maintained consistently for ease of the students of METU, NCC. For a round trip, the cost is 1 TL. Usually, everyone has to scan their student ID when entering the bus. The system deducts the charge for the journey. However, if you don’t have your student ID or if it’s out of credit, then you have to pay 4 TL to the driver.
Charging your student ID
Charging your student ID is reasonably simple and can be done from the AKVA office on campus next to the bus stop. You can charge your student ID with a minimum of 20 TL.
The bus stops
If you are taking the bus from campus, the bus stop is located in front of Dorm II (Second Dorm). If you get off at the terminal in Guzelyurt, then come back to the same spot when you want to go back to campus.
The bus schedule
The bus usually arrives on campus at half past each hour every day e.g., 2:30 PM and departs the Univeristy at a quarter to the next hour e.g., 12:45 PM. However, if you would like to get on the bus, not from these specified locations, then you can use the image below for the timings of the particular stops and their schedules.
I agree, all of this might be a bit confusing in the beginning, even as I am approaching my second year I still feel a little anxious about missing the bus when I’m outside campus, but don’t worry, you will get used to is in no time! Have a nice time on at METU, NCC!
